Today I actually did things. Shocking, isn’t it?
I went to Cosco with my mom and her friend. The whole reason I went was because my mom had a coupon for the bulk cat litter I get there. Well, I also grabbed a pack of Black and White cookies, because they looked good and were actually low calorie/fat and all that. After they (my mom and her friend) finished scouring the whole place, we went to the register. They ring it all up, my mom hands over the coupon, and the guy says “Oh I’m sorry. This coupon doesn’t start until the 4th.” UGH! The WHOLE REASON I went was to save $2 on the cat litter. My mom was like “Well, get it anyway, you’ll need it.” No. I want to use the coupon. I’d rather save my $2 coupon and USE IT when I actually am out of cat litter. The coupon is good from the 4th until the 23rd, so I’m sure I’ll need cat litter in that time. I’ll go back when I do.
After Cosco, my mom left with her friend (my mom drove them, I drove myself). I went over to ULTA because I had a 20% off purchase coupon. I needed a few things, although I rarely need anything from a place like ULTA. First I got some nail files, the ones I like, since nobody else seems to have them anymore. Then I got the one make-up item I use. Yes, I wear make-up… but I only use ONE thing. The Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder. For some reason, other stores usually don’t carry/have the lightest kind they make… Ulta did and it came with a free bonus item (some concealer stick). Then I looked all over the store, saw some things I want but wasn’t willing/able to spend the money on. Oh well. Then I remembered I really needed a new brush (the one I had was not the right brush for my hair, and was impossible to clean and get rid of all the lint/buildup on the bristles). So I went to find a brush. I swear, I never knew there were THAT many different kind of brushes!
I was overwhelmed by all the brushes to choose from, so I asked one of the ladies at the hair salon-thing they have in the store. Keep in mind, I was wearing a scarf over my hair. I sometimes do that, wear the scarf, when I know I’ll have the windows down when driving. I either have to use a hairband to keep it back so it doesn’t blow into my face, or the scarf. The scarf is actually easier. Anyway, I asked the lady for a good brush for thick, long hair. She walked with me over to the brushes, and that’s when she noticed my hair. “Oh my god, you have such long hair!” she says. Duh, didn’t I say that already to you a second ago? So she looked and picked out a brush that had strong bristles that were placed far apart. She then tried to tell me I should only use a comb on my hair, but that is just not realistic for me to do ALL the time. I use a comb at times, but a brush is 10x’s easier. So I asked if I could try the brush, and she said I could and walked me to the salon area by the seats/mirrors.
I proceeded to take off the scarf, and that’s about when 5 of the women working there all looked at me in shock and just gathered around me. “Look at that hair!” “Wow, that is just so long!” “You must put a lot of time and money in maintaining that!” and other remarks. First off, no – I don’t put a slew of money/time into my hair. I use shampoo, conditioner, and Infusium Leave-In conditioner – that’s all that goes in my hair. I don’t dry my hair, at all. I put it in a towel, let that sit for 20-30 minutes, use the Infusium, and brush/comb it out. That’s it. Then I was asked about how often I cut it, how long it took to grow it… and they were more shocked. I only get it trimmed maybe once a year, twice if I had a accident that forced me to cut a chunk of hair out and I needed a trim to slightly even things out. I had a shaved head (yup, you read that right) about 6 years ago. So I went from bald to this in 6 years. Apparently, most people take twice that long to grow their hair as long as mine. But then they all bitched saying “if you cut it more often, it’ll grow faster!” No… that’s a myth. It’s not true. Getting it cut/trimmed gets rid of dead ends, but that doesn’t magically make your hair grow faster. Blah.
So I’m standing there brushing my hair, with the 5 women who work there watching and staring. Then a few ladies shopping there came to stare. WTF? You freaks never see natural long hair before? I guess most women color, style, and generally abuse their hair. It’s not often they see someone with long, untreated, natural hair. My hair is now down to my butt. It is thick, often frizzy, and dark. I really don’t understand why people are so amazed at my hair. The thing I hate most is when random people want to touch my hair. Ugh. NO! Trust me, having random people touch you is horrible when you have social anxiety disorder. I try to get out of the situation and/or avoid it, but sometimes I can’t and I stand there freaking out while they touch my hair. I HATE THAT! Don’t fucking touch me! I am not some animal at a petting zoo, you assholes!
In the end, I liked the brush :) It did a good job, and was more like a multi-columned comb. So I got my 2 nail files, make-up and brush. The total was $25, and with the coupon I ended up spending $20. Not bad. I only do that kind of shopping once in a blue moon, so spending $20 that infrequently is not so bad. I was thinking about buying some new shampoo/conditioner there, but all the shit they had was overpriced and really BAD for your hair. I use Garniar (sp?) Fructise usually. Shampoo/conditioner with a ingredient that ends with ‘cone’ is not very good. That means it is a silicone-like ingredient, which would clog hair follicles and coat the hair and prevent it from being able to absorb moisture or nutrients in the products. The Fructise stuff has a ‘cone’ ingredient, but not as much as other products. It’s almost impossible to find something without a ‘cone’, actually. I wish I could find that!
Anyway… after Ulta I had a $5 left over from Cosco (my pack ‘o cookies was $5, and I had a $10 bill). I used my debit card at Ulta, so I just had the $5 cash left. I took my $5 and went to Petco. I got a new tub of catnip. The old tub was empty :) I also got, for free, some of those small fake mice. Oreo seems to like tossing those around and the lady at the register was nice and said I could have them for letting the 3 people ahead of me use my Petco Pals card. :)
After these 3 stores, I was pooped. I was also hot and sticky, and hungry since it was 7pm and I didn’t eat anything since 10am. I went home, ate, and stripped. Ahh… I just laid all stretched out in bed in my undies for a bit and waited for the oxycodone to kick in.
Since all that, I’ve spent time downloading loads of font collections. It will take me weeks to go through each font, view them, and install or delete them. there must be 5000-10,000 fonts I got today. The process of installing new fonts is shitty. You have to open each font, either one by one or maybe select a few at a time, look at each font, decide if you like it, install or delete it, make sure it installed right, close window and go back to font files and choose next font. Blah.
I think I’ll skip the fonting tonight, and maybe go lay down soon. I am really pooped!
